Man, It's Cold Outside!

How cold is it?

  • I saw a dog stuck to a telephone pole.
  • Politicians have their hands in their own pockets.
  • A car driver was saying something to a rock hauler on 114 and his middle finger froze.
  • Flashers are only describing themselves.
  • Tiger Woods is texting women just to keep his fingers warm.
  • Chickens are mugging sheep just for their wool.
  • Starbucks is selling antifreeze macchiatos.
  • Apple introduced something called the iScarf.
  • I saw a robin put a worm in a crock pot.
  • Brittney Spears is wearing underwear.

"You are correct, Sir!"

Hey, RPM, I saw you recommended to the Queen a .38 or .32. But, I wonder, how can you recommend the .32 without knowing how hard she can throw it?

I agree with the .38 though, with 125 gr +P. The Taurus 85CH or its Rossi equivalent would probably be good choices, as long as she doesn't have small children about.

Drive safely...you'll get the icy weather before I do.

Don, don't knock the .32 . My Dad had an old hammerless model that was a great gun. Never failed to fire, was accurate and deadly. It might not punch a hole thru a windshield or solid oak door, but it definitely is a great defensive weapon without a ton of kick. Perfect for the feminine shooter unaccustomed to hard kicking firearms.

Hey, I could have recommended a .22 or .25auto! (Like she's gonna carry a .357 or 9mm)

I had a 9mm, that's what I gave my SIL.

Doolin' Donald, I throw like a girl.

There is always the trusty 500 S&W, for those light framed shooters....

Whoa there, Ryan! Maybe a .454 Casull, or .480 Ruger? .500 Linebaugh Maximum?

Actually, I find those to be curiosities. Really, why in the hell would I want to shoot something that could break my forearm or give me a gaping gash in my forehead?

If Her Majesty has previously shot the 9mm, that opens up a whole new array of possibilities, from the Kel-Tec P9 or P11 for concealment, up to full-frame guns. I don't currently own a 9mm, but like the P9 due to the power/form factor ratio.

A blogging friend has a Taurus Millennium in .40 S&W which he loves (it's also made in 9mm). Reasonable on the wallet, too.

Yeah I'm no fan of heavy recoil firearms, though I'm not that familiar with handguns anyway. As far as rifles go, my favorite still has to be my .257 Weatherby. My brother in law has a .416 Rigby ( I think, it might actually be a little bigger, but one of those "look but don't shoot" guns) on a Thompson Center single shot, first shot shatter the reticle in his scope, now that's some KICK!

I have 2 hunting rifles. An old German Army 8mm Mauser and a Remington .300 WinMag. Both kick like a mule.
