Times Are Tougher Than We Think

Just finished watching ESPN's NASCAR Now (the monday roundtable edition with Allen Bestwick). There was a story about a couple that couldn't afford their yearly trip to Bristol and was trying to sell their season tickets. Nobody wanted them! They tried eBay and there were over 50 different auctions already up and most of them had no bids. They called ticket brokers and were hung up on. The racetrack had tickets for $20 they were trying to sell.

It's a bad time to be a scalper, nobody wants to buy tickets. I bought season tickets to TMS for the first time this year and was thinking of selling the races I didn't care about or get off work for like IRL. Looks like I'll have to eat them.

Are times really that hard for the rest of the nation? I know you hear doom and gloom everyday on the news, but they are usually fear mongers. Maybe this is the real "Wolf!" cry. We have our own little economic bubble here in the WC and it's seeing some downturn, I've heard of layoffs and slowdowns in the oilfield. But there are still jobs out there. I'm not making the greatest money, but I've got job security. People gotta eat.

Just the other day BrotherInLaw told me someone offered to sell him Bristol tickets and we thought we had struck gold. Who knew? Good thing he didn't buy them yet! The price just went waaaaaay down.

I'm a pretty sociable person and know a lot of people and I know exactly one unemployed person. Another friend did lose his job in the business of oilfield equipment sales recently but, got a real good job in less than 2 days.

A lot of what we hear is just the bad habit of doom and gloom which started to have anything beat on Bush with- think about it, when they were crowing the worst the economy was still growing and unemployment was 5 % or less (it's hard in the best economy to get lower).

I know it is understood this mess is largely due to the housing fiasco but, I look forward to reading what the future says how much of todays problems come from or were exacerbated by consumer confidence being damaged.

Times are tough but I am such an avid sports fan that I'd go hungry so that I wouldn't miss an event. Especially NASCAR. However, I am blessed in that circuit due to connections. I have access to all tracks and races at little or no cost. It's amazing how the economy is right now however, Kevin Harvick (a friend of mine ;) ) just made $200,000.00 Sunday from the purse winnings of the race. If only civilians with just a class C drivers license were rewarded that a year for safe driving. That my friend would be ever so sweet! Also, LOVED reading the fact that you are a fan of the motorsports!
