The Guardians
Cool video of my old cutter USCGC Boutwell (WHEC-719) in action during a WESTPAC patrol thru Russia, Japan and China in 2007. Boutwell also led Task Force Tarawa into Iraq in 2003 and back in the day she carried one redneck rebel without a cause into the Arctic Circle for 90 consecutive days. Blue Nosed Polar Bear, Baby!
These guys became shellbacks. Shallow water sailors my ass, Coasties rule the seas! Who do you think shows up when you call SOS?
Semper Paratus.

That ain't gonna fit under the Runaway Bay bridge...
Nice ship!
My big boat experience is limited to three nights aboard CV-16 and BB-35 - static display, and an overnight car ferry in the Adriatic, between Patras, Greece and Brindisi, Italy, circa Aug 1974.
Later, on the same trip, got to tour the minesweeper Iwo Jima anchored in Venice Bay (the only American 'soil' I touched in 1974).
Googling reveals the Iwo Jima was not a minesweeper, but a helo carrier.
Maybe what the guide was telling us was that the helos operated as mine spotters.
Well, that, and the fact that I was 13 at the time...
