Opulence?

I has it!
Yesterday was a good day. No... a very good day for The South 40. We entered a long awaited and predicted era, signing a new mineral exploration lease and production contract.

My Grandfather once told me "Boy... someday they will come in here and go deep, real deep". That day has come to pass some 40+ years after the wisest and most respected man I ever knew spoke those words to me.

In the next 30 days or so, a new well will begin drilling on The South 40 searching to exploit the Barnett Shale. Since I own the surface along with the mineral rights it's a win/win deal.

To be quite honest, for some reason I feel a bit like Hud Bannon right now, but without all the guilt. Maybe I should adopt more of a Jett Rink'ish attitude.
It would be appropriate given the situation.

I'd get your water tested right now if I were you, cowboy. We've got five wells on our property (we own surface and minerals, too), and on the last four, they started burying the cuttings on our property - less than 1,000 feet from our water well. Nothing like chromium, arsenic, barium, lead, mercury, etc. to drink and bath in. Evil bastards.

I should be alright. The well will be on the far end of my place.
