...and that's why today doesn't suck.

Life sucks when you hate your job. I love mine.

I didn't want to jinx it by celebrating too soon, but it looks like this may be the job I have always been looking for. I like the people I work with. I like my Supervisors and as far as I can tell they like my performance. I certainly have nothing against the paycheck. I put in over 80 hours in the last 10 days.

Did I mention they also feed me at work for free?

My sole complaint is the computer I work on operates at the speed of smell. The poor thing probably hasn't been turned off since the day it was plugged in and I'll guarantee you it's never been defragged.

Anyway that's this week's excuse why I haven't posted anything. At least it's a new one.

I'm watching steam train videos as I write this. I love old trains. This one's a beaut, Union Pacific 4-8-4 (4 guide wheels up front- 8 drive wheels- 4 trailing wheels in back) #8444 (which is actually UP #844, but that's a whole nother story) and Southern Pacific 4-8-4 #4449 (The Freedom Train) steam to Los Angles for the 50th Anniversary of Union Passenger Terminal.

These are the big dogs and were the top of the line in travel in their day. I'd love to take a trip to California (or just about anywhere else) on either of them.

Speaking of travel and work, I sure do miss my Mercedes C300. I should have just refinanced it instead of selling, but that's water under the bridge. To make lemonade out of lemons I made a great choice for a replacement vehicle. I really like my Cadillac CTS. It's extremely similar to the C300 but with less bells/whistles/technology. It's a very comfortable ride and gets a respectable 24MPG. I have to be honest and tell you I wish it was a CTS-V. But then it wouldn't get a respectable 24MPG and I probably wouldn't have my spotless driving record and possibly my license. I know me.

Speaking of driving... let's talk drinking (Please don't mix the two). Working near Dallas has given me the opportunity to shop at some of the more reasonably priced liquor stores. My best deal so far was finding Platinum Vodka 1.75L for 14.99. Distilled 7 times it's extremely smooth and clean tasting. Being a former player in the liquor business I know my booze and you can pay a lot more for a lot less. Do not let the blue plastic bottle fool you. This is some very good vodka.

Insider tip. If you want to improve the taste of any vodka run it through a Britta water pitcher a few times. Turns chicken shit into chicken salad.

So there you have it. I'm off work from a job I like, watching steam train videos and drinking good cheap vodka... and that's why today doesn't suck.

A while back I mentioned the possibility of getting a CTS Coupe to my sons - They said "You gotta get the CTS-V!" My thinking is that I don't want to pay the premium - purchase price, lower gas mileage, or tickets.

But I've gotta get a new job first, in any case.

I'd really, really like to have a CTS-V but I'd be walking inside of a year if I did. The base model is still a nice ride even if it can't go 180.
