Is the F4 in private hands? It's always been my favorite.

I think I read the F4 belongs to the USAF Target Drone program. They still have 1000's of them sitting in the desert.

At least those aircraft aren't headed for AMARG.

Don't know about that particular F4, but you're correct that that (target drone) is the fate of many of them:

Don, here's what Puma said about the F4 program:
"They are still in the USAF inventory as full scale drone conversion and located at Holloman AFB, NM and Tyndall AFB, FL. Today, one of the crew chiefs told me that the F-4 drone program is forecast out until 2016. F-16s are next.

They are taken out of storage at AMARC (i.e. the boneyard) and flown to another location, modified with the "drone" equipment, and then flown to either of the previously mentioned bases. Yes, they can be flown "manned" after they are drone modified. The ones that show up at the Heritage Flight Conference and airshows are kept in a more presentable state than the average drone."

Also he stated the glossy paint is nonstandard. The original camo is flat, but crews used to wipe brake fluid on them for pics (then roll the to the paint shop for repair).

Here's the thread (with lots more pics)on a flight sim BBS I hang out on:

Every time a Phantom gets smoked as a drone an angel gets hemorrhoids.

The pic w/the mustang made me think of James Bond for some reason.
