Great Balls of Fire!
What the hell is going on? 3 times in the last 18 months The South 40 has been threatened or actually burned by a wildfire. January 30, 2008 I almost lost the place.
Thank God for the Chico VFD. My house was actually on fire last year when they arrived and they still managed to save it!
Now everytime I step outside when it's windy I'm always sniffing for smoke. I was outside Thursday morning when the wind was whipping and thought I smelled smoke. When I went to work I saw Chico VFD fighting a grassfire south of me, but it looked like they had it under control.
Later that day all hell broke loose and 100's of fires broke out across Texas and Oklahoma. Montague County, Texas (just north of The South 40) was hard hit. Over 38,000 acres were burned. The town of Stoneburg has been wiped off the map. 1/2 of Sunset has been burned and at least 3 people are dead in Montague County, including former WFAA & ABC reporter Matt Quinn and his wife Cathy.
And be warned. Don't piss off Paul Cunningham.
