Sh-mile!
I needed to upgrade my photography capabilities before I go on vacation in January. Seeing as it's Cyber Monday (and not in an online hookup kinda way) I decided to see what was available. After digging thru the cybersale madness across the intertubes, I picked the Canon EOS Rebel T3 12.2MP DSLR. (I have no idea what I just said, but it sounds impressive)
It had overwhelmingly good reviews and appears to be the most bang for the buck camera under $500. The biggest complaint seems to be the "feel". Since I've never owned a high-end camera I wouldn't know what one is supposed to feel like. Crisis averted. Also a big plus, Ashton Kutcher is not their spokesperson.
I'm really not much of a photographer. Having only owned point and shoot (a/k/a idiot proof) cameras until now, this is a huge leap for me. I just hope I can learn to take decent pics with it before I leave, so be prepared for lots of random photos in the next few weeks. The good news is I'll be staying at a place owned by a very talented photographer so there's always the chance of osmosis.

I purchased the "nearly" same Canon camera two years ago for my Christmas present. I gave $1200 for it then. UGH. It's a little big sometimes and changing the lenses out quickly is a pain, but I still love it.
ReplyDeleteI'm no photographer, in any sense of the word, but the camera takes great pictures.
I bought a cheap long lens just to see if I could shoot with it. As long as I'm shooting with the monopod it does great. You can pull a deer in from 200 yards as if it were standing next to you.
I own that same camera- great. Tough, reliable with good quality pics. Get an extra, heavier capacity battery- you won't regret it.
ReplyDeleteI bought an off brand card- resulting in sending the body to the factory for repairs and the ruination of the card. The cards I buy now are high end factory.
There is an adapter that is not terribly expensive that allows you to adapt manual lenses (which can be found soooo cheap)- don't own one yet, but on my list.
The All Terrain Caucasian is right- monopods are cool. Cheaper ones are OK, but when you buy a tripod buy name brand.
My Nikon 12x50 pulls them in good on that TC Contender also WW..:)
